Delightful porch

The painting of this wonderful old porch was a true delight to paint, watercolours being the perfect medium to capture the texture and colours.
The entire house is a fascinating building full of history, and this porch dates back for generations. You can just imagine people from a bygone age carrying bundles of firewood through the low wide door.

Monday already

Where do the days go? This time last week I had been re-covering an old armchair with a friend, and should have hand stitched the sides and back, but not had chance to do it. Seems only a couple of days ago!
Must really make more of an effort to be more productive.
Having said that, I did have the guilty pleasure of ordering my grocery shopping to be delivered this week, as I have a lot of work to get done, and we are in the middle of decorating (to match the chairs!).

Dining room ceiling painted today by my lovely hubby, whilst I completed a painting of the village of Llansteffan, looking down from Brondeg Cottages to the church and estuary below.
Photo's to follow.

Need to begin sketching my next painting this evening, before cooking tea.............................

Saturday

It is a crisp morning, with bright blue skies.  When I let the dog out at 7am, it was still quite dark and the owls were hooting in the trees. Rather an eery sound, with the mist rolling across the fields beyond our garden.
Had to get the dog back in as he detests the sound of owls and barks at them like a demented thing!  My other little dog doesn't care any more, as he has gone deaf bless him!
Yesterday I almost completed a painting of Blue Street in Carmarthen, all I need to do is finish off a few window frames and put on the shadows, then I can move on to my next piece of work.

We are fixing up walls in our dining room, so will be decorating this weekend too - painting of all kinds going on!

Back to my brushes at last

What a busy time we have had. Re-covered 2 chairs with gorgeous Elan Bach material from Laura Ashley, what a difference that has made to the room. Only problem now, we have to decorate to match the chairs!

Visitors then over the weekend, did go to see the new Sherlock Holmes film, which was indeed very good, then doing our second chair all day on Monday.
Have finally painted the daffodils I had planned to do, and now will search through my photographs of Tenby on a sunny day, to sketch out for my next painting.

A lot of my work and what my plans for the year are, can be found on my website at.  http://www.jaynerussellart.co.uk

Too busy to paint, not impressed!

Had a busy old day today, rushing around town, shopping, cleaning ready for visitors this weekend, and getting ready for a day of chair re-covering tomorrow.  This may develop into a hidden artistic talent I didn't know I had!
Hopefully I will be able to sketch and even begin a painting tonight, of a wonderful bunch of bright yellow daffodils.

Llansteffan Castle

Back to work!

After spending most of yesterday stripping down an old armchair for re-covering, I am back to my paint palette today, and my husband is back to making more improvements to my website for the New Year.
I have painted Llansteffan castle and sea, and for a change of subject, I am next going to paint some wild flowers - to make me think of Springtime rather than muddy slush outside!

Keep checking out my website:

Blustery Tuesday morning, full of power cuts!

It is 11.15am on Tuesday morning, it is blowing a gale outside making it feel colder than when it was snowing last week!
I am trying to paint from a photograph I have on my computer, but the weather is playing havoc with the electricity cables and we have now had the power go off and back on again 5 times in the last hour!
Not good for the computer and even worse for my patience! Just as I am inspecting the detail of a summer garden, ‘pow’ the power goes off, lights go off, and so do I…………….
May have to re-think my work today, and paint something out of my head, or through the window!

Inside the Ninfarium

Aberglasney Ninfarium

Managed to get out of bed earlier this morning, have still been on 'Christmas Holiday' time, and my body clock is now opposed to early mornings!
I believe the 'snooze button' on the alarm clock is there as a challenge to see how many 9 minute 'snoozes' you can squeeze into half an hour! My record is 6 (in my world!)

New Year resolution of getting up at 6am to make the most of the days, appears to be harder than initially planned.  Will persevere!

I have been studying delightful pictures of the 'Ninfarium' at Aberglasney House, and from them developed a new watercolour painting.

Don't worry if the word 'Ninfarium' baffles you, it did me too.

Maybe the explanation below will throw light onto the meaning of this pretty indoor, glass roofed, orchid filled section of the building..........................................
In 2005 a unique garden was created within the ruinous central rooms and courtyard of the mansion house at Aberglasney.   The remaining walls of the rooms were stabilized and the entire area was covered with a huge glass atrium. This area now contains a wonderful collection of warm temperate and sub-tropical plants including Orchids, Palms, Magnolias and Cycads.

The name Ninfarium was derived from the amazing gardens at Ninfa, which are situated south of Rome. The garden at Ninfa has been imaginatively planted within the ruins of a medieval village.

Laugharne, the beautiful old town where poet Dylan Thomas made his home.

Cold crisp Saturday.

The sun is shining and the sky is a perfect pale cerulean blue.  The hens have fresh straw, the wild birds are being fed more often than we are, and it is lovely to see a 'real winter'.
I am at present beginning to produce paintings for an Exhibition I have later in the year, at the pretty Aberglasney House and Gardens, for details have a look at http://www.jaynerussellart.co.uk/exhibitions.html.

I should really visit to get some photographs of it covered in snow, but doubt if we would be able to make it to the house along the icy lanes.

My work can be seen on my website.  http://www.jaynerussellart.co.uk

If anyone slips on the ice and pulls any muscles, my husband is a brilliant therapist, working in Carmarthen.
His information can be found at:  www.painbuster.co.uk

Have a lovely weekend! x
