Foggy old day

After a week or so of lovely sunshine and crisp mornings, we had a day where the mist never lifted and it stayed dull and mild. No bright light and shadows for inspiration, just very 'flat' out there today.
The snowdrops are all out though, giving a splash of brightness, they seem to 'glow' more on a dull day or at evening time.
It will soon be Spring, the birds are singing, and I am thinking ahead to Bluebell time..... gorgeous!

Painting from photographs

Having looked through my photographs of towns visited, I came across one of Swansea Marina and thought I would do a painting of it. I loved the people sitting out in the sunshine eating lunch.
Painted quite loosly and unprecisely but gives a good impression of the day, the atmosphere and you can tell exactly where it is.
I enjoy painting with bright sunlight and shadows in my work,,,, always cheery!

Swansea Marina

Beautiful clouds

I am about to pick up a brush to paint the wonderful clouds - blowing past my window and a huge rate of knots!
(Not entirely sure if you spell the 'nautical knots' that way... so apologies if it is incorrect).
The sky is azure blue, huge white fluffy clouds, with angry grey bottoms.... marvellous!

Have just finished a painting of Dylan Thomas' Boathouse in Laugharne, with a calm sunset, total comparison to the whirlwind in the garden.  At least the washing will dry!

Llansteffan beach

Valentines Day proved to be a glorious sunny morning, blue skies and warm sun, until the afternoon, which turned to rain.  By which time we had been on our lovely walk, the tide was out and we managed to walk across the sands to the tall post, with the buoy hanging from the top - usually submerged - about 7 feet above our heads!  What a feeling standing in a place, where a few hours later, would be under sea-water.

The sea birds were amazing, and the morning one of the best so far of the year.
Inspired by the fresh air to paint.....................................

Sunshine, hens, catkins......... and Tenby.

Gloriously sunny day today, with a bitterly cold wind.
Couldn't resist being outside this morning, armed with a bit scarf and a garden fork.  Turned and collected the straw out of the hens run, used it as mulch around plants and put fresh straw down to keep their little feet clean and dry.
They couldnt really be let out today to dig around the garden as the ground is rock hard and frosty, so they can make do with pulled sprout plants to pick at.
We have wonderful bright catkins, hanging off the trees against the bright blue sky like golden chains in the sun, making you think towards Springtime.

I have completed a painting today of Tenby, always a joy of a subject to paint.  I plan to paint Llansteffan beach next.
Oh yes, the fishing village in Pembrokeshire was in fact Dale, and the pub I painted was the Griffin Inn.

Will attempt to post some of my paintings on this site within the next day or two, in the meantime, back to my brushes.

Painting of a little coastal village

Today, I painted a little coastal village in Pembrokeshire, the name of which escapes me - but we did go in the depths of December, so my brain may have frozen and blocked out the village name!
I will have it jotted down somewhere, so will put the picture on a blog this week WITH the name!

Yesterday I spent all day making curtains and covering old lampshades, to finish off our newly decorated dining room.  Looks as fresh as a daisy now, and we are really pleased it is done.
Living room next,,,, as the fresh paint of the dining room makes it look tatty...... painting the Severn Bridge comes to mind........... which room next!!!!
